1. What is Origin?Origin is a proprietary computer program for interactive scientific graphing and data analysis. It is produced by OriginLab Corporation, and runs on Microsoft Windows. It has inspired several platform-independent open-source clones like QtiPlot or SciDAVis(Wikipedia). In short, Origin is a powerful data processing tool which can create professional plots for publications. Here, "professional" means high resolution, adjustable and high quality.
2. Why Origin?
There are a number of data processing programs, e.g. Gnuplot, Origin, Matplotlib, TikZ/PGFplot, Qtiplot. But doing data analysis and nice figures at the same time seems rather hard to do. There is never a best tool. But compared to other tools, Origin has few features ,
a. GUI intereface;
b. Multiple choices of Graph Types;
c. Easy to start with from scratch;
d. batch processing and programming;
e. two built-in programming languages:Origin C, a C-based compiled language, and a scripting language called LabTalk™.
